Malaria Partners Uganda engaged with Rotary District 9213 Presidents from the Eastern part of Uganda, for a training and mapping meeting on June 16th to address the currently high burden of malaria in the Eastern part of the country and to understand the critical role of Rotarians to this cause.
The meeting also aimed on an analysis of the current malaria situation in the country. This allows clubs to understand the burden and the effort needed, as it was presented by the Ministry of Health. We developed work plans, identified and also guided Rotarians on key advocacy related activities that can be implemented by clubs in their respective areas of jurisdiction that can be done to address malaria elimination.
This engagement is critical to enable MPU deliver its commitments in line with its country strategy and also align to the national, global and regional malaria strategies and interventions.
At the meeting, Rotarians formed group discussions to discuss Malaria community-based innovative solutions and responses/approaches by their clubs with specific examples and best practices.
Key indicators shared were:
- Malaria awareness
- case management
- drug adherence
- and Monitoring and Evaluation.
MPU shall continue to support responses to achieve the Malaria-related targets in the proposed partnership,build capacity within Rotarians for mainstreaming malaria, as well as strengthening coordination and collaboration within Rotary.
MPU shared fact sheets, malaria talking points, MPI small grants application brochures and a reporting and tracking tool that has been developed by MPU to monitor and evaluate the indicators that have been shared with the respective asks and tasks.
